Wurtz signs National Letter of Intent with Badgers

MADISON, Wis. – Taylor Wurtz, a 6-0 guard from Brandon, Wis., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Wisconsin in 2009-10, Coach Lisa Stone announced today.

"She is by far, in our opinion, the best player in the state of Wisconsin in her class," said Stone at a news conference today. "She is a player that can play a number of positions. She is strong, physical, (has a) great Big Ten body. She handles the ball very, very well. She has the capability of putting up very big numbers. We're thrilled that she said yes to being a Badger."

Wurtz earned Associated Press first-team all-state honors as a junior and was a second-team all-state honoree as a sophomore. She is the three-time Eastern Valley Conference Player of Year, leading Ripon High School to three consecutive conference titles. The Tigers were 59-10 in three years, with Wurtz starting all 69 games, and 40-2 in conference games under Coach Bill Peters.

As a junior, Wurtz averaged 21.4 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals per game. Wurtz also competes on the Wisconsin Fastbreak Select AAU team under Coach Paul Biddick, the same team that gave the Badgers Mariah Dunham, Caitlin Gibson and Lin Zastrow.

In addition to basketball, Wurtz also competes in track and tennis. She earned all-conference honors in track as a freshman and sophomore on the 3200-meter relay and second-team all-conference honors in tennis as a junior.
