Pat Paterson Tournament Audio

Hello Everyone!

Well I have started loading the games from the tournament at Hamline University that we did. The bad news is that we won't be able to add all the games in one day so I have just loaded the first 2 and will try to finish the other 2 games from day 1 today. The games from day 2 will be loaded on Tuesday, December 2, 2008.

Please let us know what you think of the games. We know that there is huge room for improvement and we will take advice from anywhere we can get it. I am more of a T.V. guy so doing the games - radio style - will come along but slowly I am sure.

As always, feel free to take advantage of the donation button to help us with the expense of doing these games for you, the fan.

The list of our audio/podcasts can be found by clicking here or if you wish to use i-tunes to subscribe to our listings please click here.

Thank You.

p.s. I have had to remove past podcast interviews to make room for these games. If you want to listen to old interviews please let me know and I will find a way to get them to you.

Iowa Travels to Caribbean for Paradise Jam

THE SETTING
The Iowa Hawkeyes (3-1) will make their first-ever appearance in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas of the U.S. Virgin Islands this week. The Black and Gold will face three teams from major conferences: Texas Tech on Thursday (5:05 p.m.), South Florida Friday (5:05 p.m.) and California Saturday (7:35 p.m.). All games will be played at the Sports and Fitness Center.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Iowa has never faced Texas Tech or South Florida. Saturday will be only the second meeting between Iowa and California. The Bears beat the Hawkeyes, 89-66, at the Sun Devil Classic in Tempe, AZ on Dec. 9, 1982.

PARADISE JAM TIP-INS
• California will be traveling through four time zones to get to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
• Iowa will play on Thanksgiving Day for the second-straight year. The Hawkeyes beat Mississippi State last November in Cancun.
• The last time Iowa played three games in three days was at the 2001 Big Ten Tournament. Iowa defeated Purdue, a team that was coached by Kristi Curry at the time, to win the championship.
• Iowa starts the season with seven games in 14 days.
• Sophomore reserve Kelsey Cermak and junior Nicole VanderPol are doubtful for the Paradise Jam due to injury.

HAWKEYES CAPTURE HAWKEYE CHALLENGE TITLE
Iowa picked up wins over Boston University (83-58) and Providence (64-46) last weekend to claim its 18th Hawkeye Challenge title. Megan Skouby was named tournament MVP, while senior teammates Wendy Ausdemore and Kristi Smith were recognized on the all-tournament team. Skouby netted a game-high 21 points vs. Boston, and scored another 13 points against Providence. Ausdemore averaged 11 points and 5.5 rebounds, while Smith averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 assists. For the tournament, Iowa shot 42-51 (.824) from the charity stripe. The Hawkeyes also outrebounded both opponents and had a better shooting percentage.

HOT HAND
Megan Skouby shot 27-45 (.600) from the field and 30-34 (.882) from the free throw line the first four games of the season. She has attempted nearly 16 more field goals than the next Hawkeye (Hamlin - 29) and has attempted 25 more free throws than the next Iowa player (Alexander - 19).

ALEXANDER LEADS REBOUNDERS

The sophomore is Iowa’s leading rebounder (7.0 rpg) after four contests; the guard stands five-foot-nine. Alexander shared team-high rebounding honors in Iowa’s opener vs. Texas State, collecting six and was the leading rebounder at Kansas (10) and vs. Providence (11). The Hawkeyes need to replace 15 rebounds per game they lost due to graduation. Jenee Graham, Johanna Solverson and Krista VandeVenter led the Hawkeyes averaging five rebounds per game a year ago.

AUSDEMORE NEARING 1,000-POINT PLATEAU
Senior Wendy Ausdemore has scored 979 career points, just 21 shy of 1,000. Teammates Megan Skouby and Kristi Smith accomplished the feat last season as juniors.

Free Throws Seal Concordia Comeback Win

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Four free throws from sophomore Zoraa Quoie sealed a second half 85-80 comeback win for the Concordia University women's basketball team (3-1). The win came in the team's home opener at the Wildwood Lodge Tip-Off Classic against Metro State (0-2).

The Golden Bears out-scored the Roadrunners 46-30 in the second half, making up for a slow shooting first half that left them down 39-50 at the intermission. Concordia shot 63.0% from the field in the second half to close the gap, receiving 36 points in the paint during the game and nailing nine three-pointers.

Metro State did it's Roadrunner mascot justice as they raced out to a quick double figure lead in the first half. Similar to Concordia's second half, the Roadrunners shot an outstanding 65.5% from the field (17-26) in the first 20 minutes. They led by as many as 16 points.

A brisk start to the second half got both the Golden Bears and their fans back into the game. The Golden Bears went on an 16-5 run to get back to within a single digit, 66-65 around the nine minute mark. The offensive attack was balanced. Candace Olstad laid in shots off the glass while guards Kelly Supernaw and Zoraa Quoie dropped in shots from the wing. A pair of Quoie free throws gave the Golden Bears their first lead of the game, 67-66 with 8:27 to play.

In the following minutes, the teams traded buckets and turnovers, as well as the lead. Kali Olstad sunk a near-NBA three to knot the game at 72-72. Quoie gave the Golden Bears a 79-76 lead with a triple around the four minute mark. A Jamie Jones jumper kept the margin at three before the game went scoreless until the final 30 seconds. Metro State closed in to within a single point with 33 seconds to play, but Quoie got herself to the line on two occasions and showed composure by hitting all four of her shots to seal the 85-80 win.

Quoie led the team with 22 points on the afternoon, hitting all eight of eight free throws. Kali and Candace Olstad each followed with 16 points, Kali sinking four three-point shots. Candace was the rebounding leader for the Golden Bears with seven boards. Quoie nabbed six rebounds and Kali Olstad had five. Jamie Jones set a new Wildwood Lodge Tip-Off Classic record with a career high 11 assists. She also had eight points and three steals. The Golden Bears finished the game with a 49.2% shooting average. They had 30 rebounds, ten steals and 15 turnovers.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern battled 2007 Big XII Champs Kansas State to the final seconds Monday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena, but in the end the visiting Wildcats used timely shooting and solid defense to escape with a 57-52 win. Sophomores Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and Meshia Reed (Country Club Hills, Ill./Stockbridge, Ga.)) and junior Kristin Cartwright (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) all tallied double-figures for NU.

"I thought our effort tonight was phenomenal," head coach Joe McKeown said. "Defensively we did a great job. I think it gives us a lot to build on. We're going to use this as a positive."

Both squads kept each other close in the early going, until Northwestern used its defense as offensive catalyst. Following a layup by Marles Gipson to put K-State up one, Jaeschke rattled off eight of NU's nine-straight unanswered points to give the Wildcats an eight-point advantage with 7:38 left. NU's swarming defense forced three turnovers during that time while keeping KSU's usually potent offense silent.

PURDUE SOPHOMORE SAMANTHA WOODS TO REDSHIRT THIS SEASON

November 18, 2008

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue head women's basketball coach Sharon Versyp announced Tuesday that sophomore forward Samantha Woods will redshirt this season. The 6-foot-3 Bolingbrook, Ill., native is majoring in chemical engineering and will use the year to focus on her academic requirements.

"We feel it is in her best interest for Samantha Woods to redshirt this season," Versyp said. "It is a decision that Sam is completely on board with. She is in a very challenging major, chemical engineering, and her class schedule has several conflicts with our practice times. Since classes come first, she misses a significant amount of practice. Sam switched to chemical engineering in the offseason and because she will be here for five years to complete her degree, this redshirt will allow her to be even more successful in the classroom. For basketball it allows her to mature as a player and helps relieve the pressure of a tough academic track. This is a great situation for Sam, for her academics and for her future."

As a freshman last season, Woods played in 26 games, starting two. She averaged 10.2 minutes, 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds a game and recorded season highs for points and rebounds in her college debut with 17 points and seven rebounds against Valparaiso.
