ANAHEIM, Calif. - Concordia University's women's basketball team (1-0) started the 2008-09 season out with a hot 67-47 win over Central Washington (0-1) on Friday evening. The win came in the weekend-opening game at the Disney's West Coast Tip-Off Classic.
Concordia opened the season with 50 percent shooting in the first half to jump out to a 42-15 lead at the intermission. The Wildcats turned the ball over and shot only 19.4 percent under the pressure of Concordia's defense. The game opened with a Golden Bear 23-2 run, with Central Washington going without a field goal for more than ten minutes of play.
The Golden Bear team, growing into their new shoes, hit 6-of-10 first half three-pointers, including two each from Kelly Supernaw and Gwen Young. Supernaw led the team with eight first half points.
