Wisconsin women’s basketball signee news conference

MADISON, Wis. – University of Wisconsin women’s basketball coach Lisa Stone will hold a news conference on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Kohl Center media room to announce the Badgers’ 2009-10 signee. The news conference will be streamed live on UWBadgers.com.

Following the news conference, Stone and the UW players will be available for interviews as the Badgers open their regular season Monday at South Dakota State. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. in Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D. The Jackrabbits, who return four starters and 11 letter winners, receive votes in the preseason Associated Press poll.

“Defensively, we need to improve our awareness because they are a team that is going to get it out and go. They are going to shoot probably 19, 20, 25 threes in that game,” said Stone of the season opener vs. the Jackrabbits. “We have to run the floor hard with a purpose and have awareness of where our players are at. We have to get on the glass and have to take good care of the ball by taking good shots. If we can take care of those things, we will put ourselves in a very good position against a great team in a very tough environment.”

Wisconsin downed UW-River Falls, 71-38, last Sunday in the Kohl Center in the team’s only preseason exhibition. The Badgers had three players in double-figure scoring, led by freshman Jamie Russell with 15 points. Sophomore Tara Steinbauer and junior Rae Lin D’Alie chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively.
