ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team led Texas A&M (No. 12 AP, No. 7 ESPN/USA Today) for more than 21 minutes, but the Wolverines fell just shy of the upset, 59-56, Thursday night (Nov. 20) at Crisler Arena.

Michigan featured three double-digit scorers in the contest, led by senior Jessica Minnfield's (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) 14 points, game-high five assists and six rebounds. Junior center Krista Phillips (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Aden Bowman Collegiate) and senior forward Carly Benson (Carney, Mich./Carney-Nadeau Public School) rounded out the trio, registering 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The Wolverines stood level with the Aggies, 13-13, midway through the first half, with the home squad outrebounding the Aggies, 10-5, while converting 6-of-12 attempts from the field. Junior guard Kalyn McPherson (Traverse City, Mich./West) recorded her first marks of the 2008-09 season, leading Michigan with four points in the first 10 minutes of play.

U-M claimed a 30-22 advantage -- the largest differential of the contest -- following a 7-0 run, highlighted by a Phillips three-pointer from the wing. Phillips totaled seven points, three rebounds and one assist in the first half.

Texas A&M finished the first half with four unanswered points, narrowing the gap to 30-26 before the break. The Michigan advantage was fueled by senior forward Melinda Queen (Oak Forest, Ill./Carl Sandburg), who posted a team-best nine points, five rebounds and two assists in the opening stanza.
