2 Videos With Important Messages

It seems to have gotten a little better this year but the first video is to remind the players, coaches, and mainly the parents that a good attitude can mean everything.

The second is simply a Big Thank You to our Troops.

Week 4 WNBA Power Rankings

Tonight it is Number 1 vs. Number 2

2008 WNBA.com POWER RANKINGS: June 10

TEAM (last week's ranking)

NOTES
1 7-1

Mike Thibault's Sun have won four straight games, including last Friday's matchup against the then-unbeaten Lynx. Tamika Whitmore and Asjha Jones are both playing at an All-Star level and Lindsay Whalen may not be flashy, but she is quietly establishing herself as the league's most reliable point guard. But tonight's ESPN2 game in Minnesota could quickly take away Connecticut's top seed.

2
6-1 The Lynx lost last Friday to the No. 1 Sun, but Minnesota remains the surprise of the 2008 season to this point. They bring a 3-0 home record into tonight's rematch with Connecticut, and with a win they could easily vault into the top spot. The Lynx are a close second to the Mercury in points per game and their offense is firing on all cylinders as rookies Candice Wiggins, Nicky Anosike and Charde Houston continue to impress and with third-year vet Seimone Augustus putting up MVP numbers. There are reports that injured point guard Lindsey Harding will return to practice today, as well.

North Dakota State University Names Kelly Roysland Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State University head coach Carolyn DeHoff today announced the addition of Kelly Roysland as assistant women’s basketball coach. Roysland replaces Molly Marrin, who resigned to accept a similar position at the University of San Francisco.

“Kelly’s experience as a Big Ten player and her knowledge of the game that goes well beyond her playing experience made the decision to hire her easy. Her family’s success in coaching adds greatly to Kelly’s skill set. Her connection with Minnesota and her name recognition will give NDSU instant credibility,” said DeHoff.

“Kelly will bring a tremendous amount of vibrancy to our coaching staff and especially our players. I can’t wait to have my staff together and continue to move our program forward.”

A native of Fosston, Minn., Roysland was a four-year letterwinner in basketball at the University of Minnesota and played one year of volleyball for the Gophers as a fifth-year senior in 2007.

Roysland finished her basketball career 12th on Minnesota’s all-time scoring list with 1,074 points. She averaged 8.3 points per game over 130 contests, including nine NCAA playoff games. She played in a reserve role on Minnesota’s 2004 Final Four team and 2005 Sweet Sixteen team.

Roysland was the Gophers’ basketball captain as a senior in 2006-07 and earned All-Big Ten third team recognition by league media. She was Minnesota’s female winner of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in 2007 and 2008.

Her father, Mike Roysland, is the head women’s basketball coach at Division II member Minnesota-Crookston.

North Dakota State returns six players from last season’s 17-11 team that tied for second in The Summit League with a 12-6 record.

The Kelly Roysland File:

Age: 23
Born: Sept. 19, 1984
Hometown: Fosston, Minn.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in sport management, Minnesota, 2007;
Pursuing master’s in applied kinesiology, Minnesota (completion expected July 2008).

Whalen/Sun Hand Lynx First Loss

Somehow, you just knew it wouldn't last throughout the season but we fans held out hope. There was some small satisfaction that Lindsay Whalen was a part of our disappointment. 78-77 was the final as the Suns handed our Lynx their first loss of the season.

One small note - Coach Z normally goes with 11 players but cut that down to 9 for this game. The playing time for a few players has dropped some over the past 3 games as the team begins to have everyone define their roles a little better.

Lynx now #2 in WNBA Rankings

If you were to include the pre-season the Lynx have lost only 1 game this season, to the L.A. Sparks.

In this weeks Power Rankings the Sparks are #1 and the Lynx are #2.

Last year the Lynx were 10-24. This season the have opened up with a 5-0 start and are the darling story of the WNBA if you can get by the suprising number of injuries so far.
