Gophers Win Second Exhibition

Minnesota captured a 75-49 victory over Minnesota State, Moorhead in the Golden Gophers’ final exhibition game before opening the 2008-09 season at No. 2 Stanford next Friday. Senior guard Kay Sylva starting for Emily Fox, who sat out the game with a sore foot, led the way with 14 points. Freshman Jackie Voigt also made a big impact, contributing a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.

Fox was dressed for the game and participated in the team’s warm-ups, but watched the game from the bench. She is expected to be back in action for the season opener.

“We have a lot of games coming up that we need to have Emily ready for,” said Golden Gopher head coach Pam Borton. “Besides, it was good for some other people to have to step up. We have a lot of work to do, but we got a little better today. You can see our freshmen are feeling more comfortable in the system every time on the floor.”
