Women's Hoops At Home This Weekend!!

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Kick off winter break by watching some college hoops!  The Concordia women's basketball team hosts the 2008 Radisson Hotel Roseville Holiday Classic this weekend, playing a set of non-conference games at the Gangelhoff Center.  They host Lynn University (Fla.) on Saturday and Valley City State (N.D.) on Sunday with both games tipping off at 3:00 pm.  Winona State will also be at the event, playing the 1:00 daily games.  COMPLETE WEEKLY RELEASE

The Golden Bears go into the NSIC break with an 8-3 overall record and are tied for third in the conference with a 3-1 mark.  In the past four years, the Golden Bears have gone 15-2 in non-conference games played between Dec. 15 and the return of league play in the new year.  They are 3-1 in such games played at home.  In addition to this weekend's games, the Golden Bears will play at South Dakota on December 29.

Lynn University is an NCAA Division II member of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) and is located in Boca Raton, Fla.  The Fighting Knights are 6-1 overall and dropped their conference opener last week.  The team leads the SSC and is third in the NCAA with a +13.1 rebounding margin.  Guard Chelsea Patterson ranks #7 in the nation with a 55.6 three-point percentage.  This is the first-ever meeting between Lynn University and Concordia University.

Valley City State is an NAIA Division II member of the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) and is located in Valley City, N.D.  The squad is 6-6 overall and is also 0-1 in their respective conference standings.  VCSU is a young, quick team that has come up with 10.3 steals per game this season.  Off the bench, guard Emily Goedert ranks 12th in the NAIA II for three-point percentage (47.2%).  Their leading scorer, Abby Rittenhouse, is a transfer athlete from St. Cloud State.  The Vikings and Golden Bears have never played against each other on the hardcourt.
