HILLSDALE, Mich. - Concordia University's junior setter, Maggie McNamara, has swept all 2008 Player of the Year awards after being named the Ron Lenz Daktronics National Volleyball Player of the Year, announced today by Daktronics. Senior Whitney Meierotto also secured a spot on the All-America First Team, while sophomore Emily Palkert was named to the All-America Second Team. Voting on the award is conducted by Division II sports information directors nationwide. McNamara is the second player from the state of Minnesota to win the award in the past two years, joining Vicky Braegelman of Minnesota Duluth, a co-winner of the award in 2007. A Daktronics First Team All-America selection in both 2006 and 2007, McNamara has been the offensive table-setter for the Golden Bears, one of four teams remaining in pursuit of the NCAA National Championship. With a more than 1.00 lead in the nation's assist per set ranking, McNamara will finish 2008 as Division II's assist leader for the third consecutive season. She has a current average of 13.39 assists per set. McNamara is the NCAA's all-time career assist leader with a 14.37 career average. Please click here to read the complete release. |
