SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -Melissa Lechlitner scored a career-high 19 points and Kellie Watson added 13 as No. 11 Notre Dame overcame a slow start to beat No. 17 Purdue 62-51 on Sunday. Lechlitner scored seven points during a decisive 14-4 run, giving the Irish a 41-29 lead with a basket inside with 8:48 left. The Irish (7-0) extended the lead to 45-32 when Lindsay Schrader, who also had 13 points, scored on a driving layup. Purdue (5-3) used a 6-0 run to close to 45-38 on a jumper by Lakisha Freeman, but couldn't get any closer. Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton led the Boilermakers with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freeman added 12 points. Notre Dame, which hadn't trailed by more than three points all season, trailed 18-9 in the first half. The Irish were 3-of-22 from the field until Watson made a pair of 3-pointers to cut the lead to 18-16. Notre Dame led 23-22 at the half. For more please click here. |
