The Intercollegiate Athletic Departments at Concordia College , Minnesota State University, Moorhead and North Dakota State University came up with a creative way to raise funds and it resulted in $900.75 for The Salvation Army of Fargo-Moorhead during the holiday season. The mascot from each of the universities -- Thundar from NDSU, Scorch the Dragon from MSU, Moorhead and The Kernel from Concordia were on hand at the West Acres Shopping Center main entrance in Fargo on Dec. 20 to ring the bell and encourage people to donate into the kettle. Despite the winter weather storm that hit the region, Scorch the Dragon raised $403.48 to win the Mascot Challenge from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 20. Concordia College continued to ring the bell from 4-8 p.m. and raised an additional $173.81. "Thanks so much to you all for partnering with The Salvation Army at the kettles. We are blessed by your support of our ministry." said Gerri Leach, the Community Relations Director for The Salvation Army. All funds raised were used to help meet the needs of families and individuals in Cass and Clay counties during the year ahead. |
