The Wildcats broke a tie and outscored Concordia in the last 3:28 of the game. Concordia returns to the Gangelhoff Center next weekend, hosting Bemidji State on Friday and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, which will also serve as "Pink Zone" night. Four different CU players scored as the team jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead. Candace Olstad scored ten of the team's 32 points in the first half, matching Wayne State's Ali Schwartzwald as the scoring leader. The Golden Bears out-rebounded the Wildcats 24-23 in the first half and marked assists on 12 of their 13 field goals. They led WSC 32-30 at halftime. Concordia jumped out to a 42-34 lead five minutes into the second period. They had four field goals to Wayne's two, including two three-point shots from Jamie Jones. A long range shooting match ensued, with the Wildcats' Clare Duwelius returning the three-pointer, followed by another Kali Olstad triple to keep CU's lead at eight. Wayne State looked more for short range shots as the period continued, getting a number of buckets from Jodie Boss while guard Laquisha Cook got herself to the charity stripe time after time. Free throws from Cook gave the Golden Bears just a 47-45 lead at the 11:26 mark. Candace Olstad hit a jumper to put her team back up by two possessions. The Wildcats kept pressuring with their offense until a three from Duwelius tied the game at the midpoint of the period. Cook free throws gave Wayne a two-point lead a minute later. The game went back and forth a number of times and hit a 58-58 tie with 3:28 to play. Boss completed an and-one to give her team the final lead of the game. The Golden Bears only saw a Candace Olstad three-pointer and a Kelly Supernaw free throw for the remainder of regulation while Boss scored eight of the team's last 12 points in the game as the Wildcats took the decision 70-62. Candace Olstad led the Golden Bears with 19 points, marking the fourth straight game that Olstad scored 17 or more points. Olstad also matched Abby Nielsen with a team high seven rebounds. Kali Olstad was the only other player to finish in double figures for scoring, tallying 15, including five three-pointers. Jamie Jones scored nine points and had seven assists. Concordia hit nine three-pointers in the game and shot 35.8% from the field on the evening. They had a troubling game from the charity stripe, hitting only 5-of-13 free throws. Leading the way in the Wildcat win was Jodie Boss, who tied a career high with 22 points and also had 11 rebounds and five blocked shots. Duwelius had four of the team's eight three-point shots for 12 points on the night. The Wildcats hit 18 free throws and had a strong second half rebounding, finishing the game with a 49-41 margin on the boards. |
