IOWA CITY -- University of Iowa Women's Basketball Coach Lisa Bluder announced today that Morgan Johnson, Gabby Machado, Jaime Printy and Theairra Taylor have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Iowa.

"I am very happy with our recruiting class this year," said Bluder. "It is a strong class and I believe each player has an incredible upside. They are very good players now, but they can all become great players."

Printy, who became the youngest player (15) ever to verbally commit to the Iowa women's basketball program, is a two-time consensus all-state, all-conference and all-metro selection playing for Coach Bluder's alma mater, Linn-Mar High School. A two-time team captain, she was named to the all-tournament team at the Iowa state tournament her junior season. North Dakota State Women's Basketball Signs Five During NCAA Early Signing Period

North Dakota State University head women's basketball coach Carolyn DeHoff announced today her first recruiting class, a five-member class comprised of some of the best local talent: 6-foot-5 center Janae Burich (Roseville, Minn./Roseville H.S.), 5-10 guard Danielle DeGagne (Brandon, Manitoba/Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School), 6-2 center Paige Beck (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt H.S.), 5-11 guard Hannah Linz (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins H.S.), and 6-foot forward Rachelle Eckmann (St. James, Minn./St. James H.S.) -- who have signed national letters of intent to play basketball and continue their education at NDSU.

"I commend our staff for doing an unbelievable job in recruiting these student-athletes to North Dakota State University. Our appreciation goes out to Coach (Amy) Ruley and her staff for generating the interest in these incredible players last fall," said DeHoff.

"The signing of these five talented players has addressed our immediate needs for our continued success at the Division I level. We signed tremendous size and unwavering work ethics in our 6-foot-5, 6-foot-2 and 6-foot bigs, an astonishing knock down shooter, who also happens to be a south paw, and an intuitive, versatile Canadian guard. We are thrilled that they have chosen NDSU to further both their educational and athletic careers. These student athletes will continue to enrich the tradition that exists in women's basketball and Bison Athletics."

Burich was an all-conference player and St. Paul Pioneer Press all-state honorable mention performer for Roseville Area High School as a junior.

"A big reason I chose NDSU is because it's pretty close to home. I wanted to go to a school where my parents would be able to come watch me play. Also, North Dakota State University has all the educational opportunities I was looking for," said Burich.

Janae Burich, Roseville averaged 12.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots in 27 games played. She hit 54.7 percent from the field and 69.7 percent from the foul line.

In addition to being a force on the basketball court, Burich was also named honorable mention all-conference in volleyball and placed third at the 2008 state meet in the shot put.

DeGagne averaged 18.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 5.7 steals per game for Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School in Manitoba. She was tabbed as the No. 2-ranked high school player by the the Winnipeg Sun.

"I chose NDSU because everything just felt right when I went there; I liked the style of play at the camp and the coaches were great. The tradition of women's basketball at NDSU is fantastic," said DeGagne.

DeGagne's single game highs are impressive as she has: scored 41 points, pulled down 16 rebounds, dished out 16 assists, and created 13 steals. All single-game highs were against ranked opponents.

Beck has been a contributor in the post for the Roosevelt High School over the past four seasons, which included a Class AA State Championship run in 2005-2006.

"I think I've always known I would end up at North Dakota State. I love how welcoming the campus is and the enthusiasm Fargo has for Bison sports," said Beck.

Paige Beck missed the majority of her junior year at Sioux Falls Roosevelt with a knee injury.

The left-handed Linz has been a starter for Eden Valley-Watkins High School since the eigth grade. Last season, she averaged 27.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 3.9 steals per game. Linz surpassed the 1,000 point mark during her freshman season and has scored 2,683 points to date.

"The NDSU women's basketball staff are a group of women who are excited for their new task and will do anything it takes to make a winning program. I can't wait for my college experience at North Dakota State because I know it will be the time of my life, playing the game I love," said Linz.

An Associated Press All-State selection, Linz is an excellent passer and fires with deadly accuracy from beyond the arc: she has made 239 of 577 attempts for a career percentage of 41 percent.

A three-year captain, Eckmann has been an all-conference selection and honorable mention all-state since her freshman year at St. James High School.

"NDSU was always the school I wanted to go to. I wanted to be a Bison the moment I saw the girls play, and I'm looking forward to finally becoming one," said Eckmann.

Eckmann also holds the St. James High School record for 3-point field goal percentage at a deadly 45.3 percent. She has already surpassed the 1,000 point mark before her senior season begins.

North Dakota State opens the regular season and looks to "Pack the House" at home against the University of Northern Iowa at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 in the Bison Sports Arena.

Playing at an upper level against Upper Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team closed out its preseason and improved to 2-0 in exhibition play after defeating the Upper Iowa Peacocks 74-54 this afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The game started off fairly slow with both teams shaking off early-season rust. Iowa won the opening tip, and guard Kachine Alexander scored the first points of the game. Iowa jumped out to a 13-2 lead early before Upper Iowa answered with a 10-3 run, capped by a three-pointer to cut the Hawkeye advantage to 16-12. With Upper Iowa pushing the ball in transition, Iowa stopped the fast-break and trapped the ball-handler to force a five-second call to give the ball back to Iowa.

Breakdowns Catch Bears In Game Three

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Two high-powered offenses showed up at the Anaheim Convention Center for the final game of the 2008 Disney’s Tip-Off Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears (2-1) played possibly their finest game of the weekend, but a late slump led to a 77-60 University of Indianapolis (3-0) win.

The Golden Bears had their best offensive showing and played convincing defense against a highly talented U-Indy team. When Concordia’s offense was connecting on shots, the teams battled back and forth for the lead. But when shots ran amiss late in the game, the Greyhounds opened a lead and became the champions on the women’s side of the tournament.

Defense, Olstad Overcome Halftime Deficit For The Win

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Senior Candace Olstad hit nothing but nylon on a late three-pointer and then blocked a Cal Poly Pomona (0-2) three-point attempt with 25 seconds remaining to secure a 68-64 Concordia win Saturday afternoon at the Disney’s West Coast Tip-Off Classic. The Golden Bears rallied back from a halftime deficit to take a late lead and go up 2-0 on the year.

Candace Olstad's late push helped the team secure the win.A second half that saw the Broncos up by as many as ten points intensified as the Golden Bears closed the gap by playing exceptional defense. A progression of a Kelly Supernaw triple, Zoraa Quoie set of free throws and Supernaw jumper in the paint combined with solid defensive stops gave the Golden Bears their first lead, 60-58 with just under four minutes to play. Candace Olstad kept the momentum swinging her team’s way as she canned a three-pointer near the minute mark to put CU up 65-62. Olstad secured the win for her team by blocking a CPP three-point attempt and nabbing the ball to give the possession back to CU. The Concordia defense did not allow a field goal for the last three minutes of play.

The win was big for Concordia as they proved to themselves that they could overcome a halftime deficit and cool shooting and stay in the game. The entire game was physical and played at an uptempo pace, leading to a tight score for the majority of the first half. The Golden Bears led 13-12 at the 11:41 mark but as players began to be pulled due to fouls, the Broncos of Cal Poly took over the pace of the game. Under continued pressure, Concordia struggled to find the hoop in the waning minutes of the half while the Broncos went on a 17-6 run to go up 29-19. The Golden Bears were down 31-25 at the half.

Concordia opened the season with 50 percent shooting in the first half to jump out to a 42-15 lead at the intermission. The game opened with a Golden Bear 23-2 run, with Central Washington going without a field goal for more than ten minutes of play.

Colorado Women's Basketball Opens Season With Exhibition Sunday

THE GAME: The University of Colorado will play its lone exhibition
game of the 2008-09 season against Regis University on Sunday,
Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Coors Events Conference Center.

BROADCAST: Video of Sunday’s exhibition game will be streamed
live on BuffsTV, the premium subscription package offered through
CU Athletics’ official website, www.CUBuffs.com.

SEASON PREVIEW: Colorado saw shining glimpses of a bright future
throughout the 2007-08 season. The Buffaloes had an 11-game
winning streak, a four-week run in the national polls, big wins over
ranked opponents – both home and on the road -- all culminating
with a run to the semifinals of the 2008 Postseason WNIT, their fi rst
postseason tournament in four years.

The key for Kathy McConnell-Miller’s fourth Buffaloes squad is to
keep the momentum from last season going. And all indications are,
from the off-season effort of her players, the Buffaloes are well on
track to do just that.

“They are physically and mentally prepared for what is to come,”
McConnell-Miller said. “It was a great transition from the Big 12, to
the WNIT run and then their overall commitment this summer.

Iowa outscored Quincy by 27 points in the second half en route to a convincing 88-57 triumph last Sunday in the Hawkeyes’ exhibition opener.

All five Iowa starters tallied double figures. Four seniors led the way for the Black and Gold. Wendy Ausdemore scored a team-high 18 points, Megan Skouby had 17 points, Kristi Smith netted 14 points and Nicole VanderPol drained 12 points. Skouby also posted game highs in rebounds (15) rebounds and blocks (2). Sophomore starter Kachine Alexander registered 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

PURDUE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TABBED NO. 23 IN AP PRESEASON POLL

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women’s basketball team is ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press preseason poll. The Boilermakers return to the top 25 for the first time since Nov. 19, 2007, when they were tabbed No. 22.

Third-year head coach Sharon Versyp has the most depth and experience since her return to her alma mater. She has four starters back from the 2008 Big Ten Tournament championship squad, plus the services of sharpshooter Jodi Howell and All-America candidate Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton, who sat out last season with injuries. Add to that mix four freshmen that were ranked as high as the seventh-best recruiting class in the country and it becomes clear why Purdue was picked by the Big Ten coaches as the preseason favorite to win the conference.

Gophers 69 Bears 54

Well both teams got what they were looking for, a great workout against somebody other than themselves.....and it showed.

The University of Minnesota Gophers showed fans an up tempo style of play that has not been around in the Borton era. A majority of the turnovers can be attributed to "timing issues" as well as on floor combinations that will be adjusted before the real games start.

For the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears, well it was at least a half that they were glad to get out of their system. For the first 9 minutes only 1 basket went in out of 13 attempts - 6/28 for the half. Outside of that the Bears looked like they were ready to make a run at the D2 National Championships again this season.

Please note that beginning with the Non-Exhibition games we can no longer provide complete post game comments given to the general media pool for the Gopher games. We will however provide a link to the service that will make this available to fans with every game posting. We will also try to visit with Coach Borton & players after each Game for some One on One comments.
