Gophers Win Second Exhibition
For post game audio of this contest please click here.
Minnesota captured a 75-49 victory over Minnesota State, Moorhead in the Golden Gophers’ final exhibition game before opening the 2008-09 season at No. 2 Stanford next Friday. Senior guard Kay Sylva starting for Emily Fox, who sat out the game with a sore foot, led the way with 14 points. Freshman Jackie Voigt also made a big impact, contributing a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
Fox was dressed for the game and participated in the team’s warm-ups, but watched the game from the bench. She is expected to be back in action for the season opener.
“We have a lot of games coming up that we need to have Emily ready for,” said Golden Gopher head coach Pam Borton. “Besides, it was good for some other people to have to step up. We have a lot of work to do, but we got a little better today. You can see our freshmen are feeling more comfortable in the system every time on the floor.”

Gophers 69 Bears 54
Well both teams got what they were looking for, a great workout against somebody other than themselves.....and it showed.
The University of Minnesota Gophers showed fans an up tempo style of play that has not been around in the Borton era. A majority of the turnovers can be attributed to "timing issues" as well as on floor combinations that will be adjusted before the real games start.
For the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears, well it was at least a half that they were glad to get out of their system. For the first 9 minutes only 1 basket went in out of 13 attempts - 6/28 for the half. Outside of that the Bears looked like they were ready to make a run at the D2 National Championships again this season.
Please note that beginning with the Non-Exhibition games we can no longer provide complete post game comments given to the general media pool for the Gopher games. We will however provide a link to the service that will make this available to fans with every game posting. We will also try to visit with Coach Borton & players after each Game for some One on One comments.

Minnesota vs. Concordia
The Minnesota women’s basketball team plays host to Concordia University, St. Paul on Sunday, Nov. 2, in the first of two exhibition games preceding the 2008-09 regular season. Tip-off at Williams Arena is set for 2 p.m.
2008-09 Golden Gopher Outlook:
The Minnesota women’s basketball program has been under the direction of head coach Pam Borton for the last six seasons. Each season, the Golden Gophers have advanced to postseason action, obviously highlighted by the Gophers’ memorable trek to the Final Four in 2004 and to the Sweet 16 in 2003 and 2005. Like the flip of the calendar year, in the world of our Golden Gophers what comes around, goes around.
