Swish Clinic Is Coming To Town
Greetings to you and thanks for your support of the "Swish Method" of shooting a basketball. I will be coming to Minnesota Oct. 9-13 to be part of a Youth Coaches' Clinic at the amazing Colin Powell Leadership Center in south Minneapolis. The Coaches' Clinic is all day Saturday, the 11th. I'll be presenting twice.
Contact Kelby Brothen, Athletic Director for info about this special all-day Clinic:
Work #: 612/638-1014
Cell: 612/720-8852
Email: urbanstars@urbanventures.org
TWO CLINICS FOR KIDS & COACHES!
While I'm there I'll be putting on two clinics at the Powell Center, as follows:
· Friday after school, Oct. 10th (5-9PM)
· Sunday evening, Oct. 12th (5-9PM)
These clinics are 4 hours long and I can coach up to 24 kids at a time. Because of the Coaches' Clinic on Saturday, I'm going to open my clinics to both kids AND coaches. The coaches will take the clinic as a student, as that's the best way to coach anything ... be able to do it yourself, be in the "stew" of learning, so to speak. I'll continually point out the coaching points during the clinics.
FEES
NOTE: The fees are reduced for these clinics, in light of the challenging economy we are all facing. They are as follows:
Regular fee for a player: $50, which includes the Swish 2 DVD
Fee for siblings, $40, no video (where first sibling pays full price)
Fee for repeaters: $40 (no video)
Fee for coaches: $40 (including Swish 2)
ON-LINE ENROLLMENT IS AVAILABLE
Go to this web page for details on the clinics and the links to enroll On Line:
Colin Powell Center Shooting Clinics
I HOPE TO SEE YOU!
My clinics are getting more and more exciting and effective as I see additional things all the time and new ways to say and coach them. I can see that the main thing I'm doing (and teaching others to do) is coaching kids to be able to coach themselves in these simple principles. As they learn to shoot a basketball -- and, more powerful for them, how to learn anything -- their self images can alter and self esteem rise. This is one of the great things about sports, the potential for growth as human beings. Let's work together to help more kids experience how awesome they truly are!
Cheers,
Tom
P.S. Please note that there is secure parking both in front of the amazing Powell Center and also with underground parking (enter on the north side of the building, off 29th Street). If you have any concerns about this, please call Kelby Brothen. His #'s are above.

BIG TEN ANNOUNCES EXPANDED WBB MEDIA COVERAGE

IOWA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
BIG TEN ANNOUNCES EXPANDED MEDIA COVERAGE
IOWA CITY – The Big Ten Conference today announced its women’s basketball non-conference Big Ten Network (BTN) television schedule for 2008-09, along with its expanded streaming schedule on bigtennetwork.com. Big Ten teams will receive more coverage than ever before with a record 119 games set to be distributed by BTN, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and bigtennetwork.com.
All games streamed on bigtennetwork.com will be live and made available free-of-charge. In all, BTN currently boasts a slate of 55 regular season games and an additional 56 on its website.
Iowa’s home games against Iowa State (Dec. 7) and Northern Iowa (Dec. 11) have been picked to be televised to a national cable audience on BTN. The Iowa State contest will start at 1 p.m., while the Northern Iowa game will tip at 7 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
In total, Iowa will be televised a minimum of six times on BTN, with the last three regular season games serving as ESPN2/BTN wildcard selections and every Big Ten Tournament contest receiving television coverage. Additionally, Iowa’s first non-conference road game, at Kansas (Nov. 18), will be broadcast to a national cable audience on ESPN.
The conference office announced that 10 of Iowa’s conference games will be available for webcast on bigtennetwork.com. In total, a minimum 14 of its 18 conference games will be available on different media platforms. Iowa’s final three regular season games could be chosen for broadcast on either BTN or bigtennetwork.com; a decision on those three games will be made in mid-February.
“This is an exciting time for our program and the Big Ten Conference with the amount of media coverage we are receiving on a national scale,” said Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder. “With 14 of our 18 conference games selected by BTN and bigtennetwork.com, it gives recruits and Hawkeye fans the opportunity to watch unprecedented coverage of our games home and away.”
A special thanks to the Iowa Hawkeye media department for providing this item.

Week 4 WNBA Power Rankings
| 2008 WNBA.com POWER RANKINGS: June 10 | |||||
| | TEAM (last week's ranking) | W/L | NOTES | ||
| 1 |
| 7-1 | Mike Thibault's Sun have won four straight games, including last Friday's matchup against the then-unbeaten Lynx. Tamika Whitmore and Asjha Jones are both playing at an All-Star level and Lindsay Whalen may not be flashy, but she is quietly establishing herself as the league's most reliable point guard. But tonight's ESPN2 game in Minnesota could quickly take away Connecticut's top seed. | ||
| 2 |
| 6-1 | The Lynx lost last Friday to the No. 1 Sun, but Minnesota remains the surprise of the 2008 season to this point. They bring a 3-0 home record into tonight's rematch with Connecticut, and with a win they could easily vault into the top spot. The Lynx are a close second to the Mercury in points per game and their offense is firing on all cylinders as rookies Candice Wiggins, Nicky Anosike and Charde Houston continue to impress and with third-year vet Seimone Augustus putting up MVP numbers. There are reports that injured point guard Lindsey Harding will return to practice today, as well. | ||
North Dakota State University Names Kelly Roysland Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach
FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State University head coach Carolyn DeHoff today announced the addition of Kelly Roysland as assistant women’s basketball coach. Roysland replaces Molly Marrin, who resigned to accept a similar position at the University of San Francisco.
“Kelly’s experience as a Big Ten player and her knowledge of the game that goes well beyond her playing experience made the decision to hire her easy. Her family’s success in coaching adds greatly to Kelly’s skill set. Her connection with Minnesota and her name recognition will give NDSU instant credibility,” said DeHoff.
“Kelly will bring a tremendous amount of vibrancy to our coaching staff and especially our players. I can’t wait to have my staff together and continue to move our program forward.”
A native of Fosston, Minn., Roysland was a four-year letterwinner in basketball at the University of Minnesota and played one year of volleyball for the Gophers as a fifth-year senior in 2007.

Roysland finished her basketball career 12th on Minnesota’s all-time scoring list with 1,074 points. She averaged 8.3 points per game over 130 contests, including nine NCAA playoff games. She played in a reserve role on Minnesota’s 2004 Final Four team and 2005 Sweet Sixteen team.
Roysland was the Gophers’ basketball captain as a senior in 2006-07 and earned All-Big Ten third team recognition by league media. She was Minnesota’s female winner of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in 2007 and 2008.
Her father, Mike Roysland, is the head women’s basketball coach at Division II member Minnesota-Crookston.
North Dakota State returns six players from last season’s 17-11 team that tied for second in The Summit League with a 12-6 record.
The Kelly Roysland File:

Age: 23
Born: Sept. 19, 1984
Hometown: Fosston, Minn.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in sport management, Minnesota, 2007;
Pursuing master’s in applied kinesiology, Minnesota (completion expected July 2008).
